It's official. August 30 is the Eid'l Fitr holiday for this year!

The President has signed Proclamation No. 234 declaring August 30, 2011 (Tuesday) a regular holiday nationwide in observance of a Muslim holiday which marks the end Ramadan, the Eid'l Fitr.

It is going to be a long break during the said week since the National Heroes Day will also be celebrated on August 29th (Monday), another regular holiday.

DECLARING TUESDAY, 30 AUGUST 2011, AS A REGULAR HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN OBSERVANCE OF EID’L FITR (FEAST OF RAMADHAN)

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) as a regular holiday throughout the country;

WHEREAS, Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim World for three (3) days after the end of the month of fasting;

WHEREAS, to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr,

WHEREAS, in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Tuesday, 30 August 2011, as a regular holiday throughout the country.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Tuesday, 30 August 2011, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan). The Eid’l Fitrprayer shall depend on the result of the Niyata or moon-sighting activity on the 29th day of Ramadhan 1432H, corresponding to 29 August 2011.

June 13, 2011 Holiday in the Philippines? Probably not

June 13, 2011 Holiday has been anticipated by many who are still used to the "holiday economics" policy started by the previous administration wherein holidays were moved on dates closer to a weekend. However, the said policy had long been junked by PNoy through the Proclamation No. 84 which mandates that "all holidays be observed on the day they actually fall instead of being moved to the nearest Monday for longer weekends as was the practice under the Arroyo administration."

Many may also got confused since the Palace declared June 20, 2011 as the holiday for Jose Rizal's birthday on June 19. But this is another story since we are celebrating Rizal's 150th this year which the National Historical Commission of the Philippines found to be a special year and so they requested the holiday to be moved on June 20th so that many could join their activities.

The Independence Day on June 12 falls on a Sunday. And probably, there will be no June 13 (Monday) holiday since the June 20 holiday was declared on April 26, almost 2 months prior to the date. If there would be a similar announcement for June 13, then it would have been done earlier.

Update: Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte reportedly said that the Malacañang is not moving the holiday on June 12. There will be no June 13, 2011 holiday.

June 24, 2011, a special non-working holiday in Manila

Two long weekends await Manilenyos starting June 18 (Saturday) since June 24 (Friday) has been declared a holiday in the city by the Palace. June 20 (Monday) was previously announced a national holiday as well- Jose Rizal's 150th birth anniversary will be commemorated on this day.

According to Proclamation No. 175, June 24, 2011 will be a special non-working holiday in the city of Manila since it's the 440th founding anniversary of the Philippine Capital.

DECLARING FRIDAY, 24 JUNE 2011 AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY IN THE CITY OF MANILA

WHEREAS, Friday, 24 June 2011 marks the 440th Foundation Day anniversary of the City of Manila;

WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAQUITO N. OCHOA JR., Executive Secretary, by authority of His Excellency, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, do hereby declare Friday, 24 June 2011 as a special (non-working) day in the City of Manila.
